
Meet Alanna Elder
Alanna Elder is a producer for “Minnesota Now” on MPR News. She joined MPR News in 2023.
Alanna has worked as a reporter, producer and fill-in host for public radio stations in Wyoming, Alaska and Pennsylvania. Before moving to Minnesota in 2021, she was a Report for America fellow in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. She also contributed freelance work to the North American Congress on Latin America and “Here & Now.”
Alanna earned a bachelor’s degree in agroecology and environment and natural resources from the University of Wyoming and a master’s in journalism and joint program studies from New York University, with a focus on Latin American and Caribbean studies.
Alanna grew up listening to NPR programs like “All Things Considered” and “Car Talk” on drives through Wyoming, her home state. She is inspired by radio's unique ability to connect people to their surroundings and to each other.
Alanna now lives in Minneapolis. Her favorite places in the city are the tamarack bog in Theodore Wirth Regional Park and the trails along the Mississippi River gorge.
